Peter Gunn leaves Guildford Spectrum to head up BIC
Peter Gunn, general manager of the Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex, has announced his resignation and will be taking up the new post of managing director at the revamped and recently opened Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) on 3 January 2006.
Gunn has held the GM role at the Leisure Complex for 10 years, during which time he has led Spectrum to achieve the highest national Quest score – a UK award for quality for sports and leisure – four times.
Previously he has held management roles at Center Parcs and the Dome in Doncaster.
The BIC, which opened last month, has undergone a £22m extension to increase the town’s conference, exhibition, entertainment and leisure facilities.
A new multi-purpose space – The Solent Hall – has been created on the site of a former leisure pool, in order to accommodate up to 3,500 extra people.
This will also be used for sporting events and as a temporary ice rink.
The Windsor Hall has been expanded to increase capacity to 4,200 people seated or 7,200 standing, while the foyer and front of house have also been improved.
The refurbishment was funded by Bournemouth Borough Council and the South West Regional Development Agency.
The improved centre is expected to welcome close to 240,000 extra leisure-related visits a year. Details: www.bic.co.uk
