On the road to success
There must be something in the water at Tees Active as they have been granted a second award in as many weeks!
Tees Active has been presented with the Social Enterprise Mark, which identifies them as trading for social and environmental purposes that will benefit both people and the planet.
Strong examples of Tees Active's social agenda include the Tees Active Sports Academy, the Option 3 subsidised pricing scheme and the Young Persons Active Health Scheme.
The Tees Active Sports Academy nurtures and develops young people from the local community. This enables the sporting youngsters to realise their full potential as well as inspiring other children throughout the Borough. The Option 3 scheme offers reduced prices access for those people on benefits. The Young Persons Active Health Scheme tackles the growing problem of childhood obesity.
Steve Chaytor, Managing Director of Tees Active said: "We are really proud to have been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark which recognizes the work we do in our communities and more importantly, the way we do it. Tees Active is absolutely committed to supporting sustainable businesses and consequently helping local communities to thrive and prosper".
Tees Active are the only leisure trust in the North East to be awarded the Social Enterprise Mark and join other ethical businesses such as the Eden Project, Bristol Wood Recycling Project and the Co-operative Group South & West.
Social enterprises are working to make a difference across the UK and beyond, but not enough people know what they are or how they work. The Social Enterprise Mark aims to raise awareness of what social enterprises do in order to get more people to buy from, engage with, start up and work for social enterprises.
Lucy Findlay, Manager of the Social Enterprise Mark said: "We are delighted to award the prestigious Social Enterprise Mark to Tees Active. Social enterprises come in all shapes and forms so it's great to see a vital, local Leisure Trust understanding the importance of being part of the wider social enterprise brand."
