Olympic swimmer Steve Parry held his Oceans of Fun events at four pools in London operated by Greenwich Leisure (GLL) recently.

Devised by Parry’s company, Total Swimming, the events were designed to inspire the capital’s children to follow a healthy and active lifestyle and introduce them to swimming, water polo, diving and synchronised swimming.

“Oceans of Fun is designed to inform and educate children about all aspects of the aquatic sports of swimming, diving, water polo and synchro,” said Parry.

“We provide a fun environment, in which kids aqed between 8 and 12 years old can learn from people who have real and current experiences of what it is like.

“Some may go on to compete at the highest level, while others will use aquatic activities to help them lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

“Thanks to our sponsors, Thames Water and Sportsmatch, we were able to put on four events this weekend, all of which were at maximum capacity with 200 kids attending.

“So far the feedback has been exceptional and we fully intend to continue with Oceans of Fun days and run more events across the southeast and the rest of the country.”

Andrew Clark, swimming development manager for Greenwich Leisure, added: “All four of the events were fantastic and enjoyable for all concerned.

“Feed back from children and parents has been superb and requests on how to continue participation in water polo and synchronised swimming have quite literally been flooding in.

“We look forward to continuing this project by holding similar events in all our local authority partnerships across London.”
