Northwich leisure facility plans move forward
Plans for the development of a new £12.5m entertainment and leisure complex in Northwich, Cheshire have moved forward after the project timetable was outlined by the local authority.
Users and staff at the town's Memorial Hall, which will be replaced by the new facility, were given the chance to learn more by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWCC).
Memorial Hall is due to close in February 2013, with a new building comprising a swimming pool; a fitness suite; an entertainment venue; and sports facilities to be built on the site.
The first round of public consultation is due to take place between April and the end of May, which will focus on the building's design. A second round will be held later this year.
Due to open in January 2015, the venue will result in swimming, fitness and squash facilities at Moss Farm being closed. However, Moss Farm is to continue as an outdoor sports centre.
CWCC executive member for culture and regeneration Stuart Parker said: "We will work with all Memorial Hall user groups over the next 12 months to help them make alternative arrangements for their activities while construction is underway.
"At Moss Farm, we will be engaging with users about how they see the future role of this key facility and how this will complement the new indoor provision."
