North Devon facility to undergo renovation
North Devon Council has announced that it will be appointing a contractor next month for a six-month refurbishment of a Barnstaple leisure centre, which is due to start on 31 October.
Improvements to North Devon Leisure Centre - operated by Parkwood Leisure - are due to be completed by April 2012 and will hekp maintain the 40-year-old venue for future use. The scheme will include a full overhaul of the wet changing areas; the cleaning of the pool tank interiors; and repairs to the roof and frame of the building.
Derrick Spear, the council's executive member for culture, said: "The leisure centre is a very popular facility in the town, which is why it's so important that it is maintained. "Although users of the pool and fitness facilities will experience some disruption, these works are essential and will really improve the look and feel of the building."
The council anticipates that the facility's swimming pool will be unavailable for the duration of the six-month revamp.
