New £94,000 play area for Newton Abbot
Teignbridge District Council (TDC) has opened a new £94,000 natural play area in Newton Abbot, Devon - one of 11 facilities across the UK to benefit from government Playbuilder funding.
The Friends of Bakers Park community group and the Newton Abbot Community Interest Company helped design the new facility, which involved consultation with local children. Equipment at the new play area includes an aerial runway, a large wooden climbing frame with nets, an inclusive roundabout capable of accommodating disabled users and traditional swings.
TDC provided £40,000 towards the scheme in addition to £45,000 secured through the Playbuilder initiative. Newton Abbot Town Council contributed a further £9,000 for fencing. The Bakers Park play area is one of three schemes TDC is planning to deliver following a successful bid for government funding.
Anne Fry, executive spokesperson for recreational services at TDC, said: "We're always working to provide top-quality parks and play facilities, help everyone enjoy a healthy lifestyle and encourage people to take part in local activities, and this project has done all that and more."
