New £3.1m sports centre opens in Keynsham
A new £3.1m (US$4.67m, €3.62m) sports centre has been opened in Keynsham, Avon by Paralympic medallist Ben Rushgrove.
The facility, commissioned by the Bath & North East Somerset Council and Wellsway School, features a six-court sports hall, fitness suite, activity studio and additional classroom for the school.
Multinational infrastructure group Balfour Beatty, operating under the Cowlin Construction banner, worked closely with both staff and students during the project, which included adding construction to the curriculum.
Primarily for school use, the site will be open to the public outside school hours.
Since the sports centre first opened its doors in January, more than 300 people have used the facilities.
“This is a great example of Bath & North East Somerset Council's commitment towards helping schools to develop and extend their role in the local community," said Councillor Dine Romero, cabinet member for early years, children and youth. "We're extremely pleased to see that the new sports centre is already making a big difference to Wellsay School and its students as well as the wider Keynsham community.”
