New £20m leisure centre launched in Somerset
A new leisure centre in Bridgewater has opened as part of a £20m redevelopment of Robert Blake and Elmwood School.
The centre was opened under Somerset County Council's Building Schools for the Future Project (BSFP).
Robert Blake and Elmwood Leisure, which will be managed by 1610 leisure trust, will provide a state of the art gym and exercise studio as well as a four court sports hall. In addition to this a grass football pitch, MUGA and all weather pitch will be available.
It is the second leisure centre to open in Bridgewater in the past 12 months as the £2m Trinity Sports and Leisure opened in November last year as part of the BSFP.
A new 25m six-lane swimming pool and a 13m learner-training pool are due to open at Trinity Sports and Leisure in early 2013.
Frances Nicholson, cabinet member for Children and Families at Somerset County Council, said: "I am already delighted about the new buildings for Robert Blake and Elmwood Schools and even more so now at these state of the art facilities that will be to benefit of the whole of the community as well as the students themselves."
The projects were developed by members of the local community and students and funded by the BSFP.
