New tennis facilities unveiled in Eastleigh
Fleming Park Tennis Centre in Eastleigh, Hampshire, has officially unveiled new facilities, which have been part-funded by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
The national governing body provided £172,000 towards the scheme, while Eastleigh Borough Council and operator DC Leisure invested £80,000 and £50,000 respectively. Four new macadam tennis courts and a covered seating area were created as part of the project, along with a new clubhouse. Meanwhile, the LTA and the Tennis Foundation have awarded the club 'Beacon' status.
Fleming Park Tennis Centre director of tennis Richard Carter said: "This project places an open-access tennis facility at the heart of the local population and provides opportunities for children and adults of all ages to participate in the sport." Rich Millard, sports development director and operations support director at DC Leisure, added: "The completion of the tennis centre was the culmination of a lot of hard work and the realisation that a community tennis project should play a key role in helping the LTA's drive to increase grass roots participation."
