New movie map of England’s maritime heritage
Linked to the new Russell Crowe movie, Master and Commander – The Far Side of the World, VisitBritain has produced a map showing key English destinations and attractions connected to ships and the sea, as well as locations used in the film.
Included on the map are Greenwich, home to the Cutty Sark and the National Maritime Museum; Portsmouth, where Mary Rose, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior can be found; Bristol, with a Maritime Heritage Centre and SS Great Britain and Falmouth, home of the new National Maritime Museum Cornwall.
Further north are Historic Quay in Hartlepool, a reproduction of an 18th century seaport; the Merseyside Maritime Museum at Liverpool’s Albert Dock development and the Captain Cook Memorial and Birthplace Museums in Whitby and Middlesbrough respectively. Details: www.visitengland.com/master
