New-look leisure centre opens in Redhill
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council (RBBC) has reopened Donyngs Leisure Centre in Redhill, Surrey, which has undergone an extensive £4.1m refurbishment programme.
A new fitness suite was unveiled at the venue earlier this year, which includes 100 pieces of Life Fitness equipment. A youth gym for 11-to-16-year-olds has also been created.
Other improvements to be carried out at Donyngs Leisure Centre have included the creation of a new soft play area in the old gym space and the upgrade of a fitness and dance studio.
RBBC and operator GLL joint-funded the renovation of the facility, which has seen it move towards the Inclusive Fitness Initiative's (IFI) standard for accessible leisure provision.
Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson were the project architects and Vincent Stokes, supported by Yorkshire Building Services, were the primary building contractors.
Van Zyl and de Villiers and project manager Lavingtons were also involved.
RBBC executive member for healthy communities Adam De Save said: "As well as significantly improving and modernising the centre for existing customers, we also want Donyngs to attract new users from all sections of the community
"The centre is also now more accessible for customers with disabilities and has a range of equipment suitable for visually impaired and disabled users."
