New-look leisure centre opens in Ilkeston
The new-look Victoria Park Leisure Centre has been fully reopened in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, following the completion of an extensive £2.3m refurbishment of its facilities.
Erewash Borough Council (EBC) has completed work on the facility ahead of the half-term holidays, with the revamp carried out in phases by contractor Wates Construction.
The main swimming pool and splash pool areas underwent improvement work in the second phase of the scheme, along with the sauna and steamrooms and multi-use studio for aerobics and conferencing.
An earlier phase of the refurbishment, which was completed during the summer, included the provision of a new reception area and a café on the ground floor.
EBC lead member for culture and leisure Mike Wallis said: "This has been an exciting project and, indeed, a major investment that has updated, modernised and given a whole new look to Victoria Park Leisure Centre.
"This refurbishment is another example of our commitment to providing first class leisure facilities and to our wider drive to encourage people of all ages to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle."
