New-look Winter Gardens open in Blackpool
Blackpool Council has reopened the resort's historic Winter Gardens to the public ahead of the February half term break, following a £1.25m overhaul.
Conservation architects Donald Insall Associates have carried out restoration work on behalf of the council, which acquired the attraction in March 2010. The Grade II-listed building's Church Street entrance has been resorted as part of the work, along with improvements to the Rotunda and the Floral Hall.
A new café has also been created as part of the scheme, which was funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency, the European Union and the council. Blackpool Council leader Peter Callow said: "The refurbishment of the entire Winter Gardens complex is something that will take a great deal of time and thought.
"We want to ensure a long term sustainable use for the Winter Gardens, so that it helps to bring jobs into Blackpool."
