New leisure hubs for Hounslow
Hounslow’s health and fitness offering is to be transformed with the redevelopment of four existing facilities into new leisure hubs.
Since being appointed by Hounslow Council last year, registered charity Fusion Lifestyle has made public its improvement proposals for the borough’s community sport and active leisure services.
Two leisure and library hubs will be assembled at Isleworth Recreation Centre and Feltham Airparcs, while Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre and New Chiswick Pool will face refurbishment.
Council leader Peter Thompson said: “The combined leisure and library ‘hubs’ will pull together community facilities, and by adding shared café and social areas, create a variety of spaces where all members of the community can enjoy a variety of activities.
“Our centres have long been in need of redevelopment, which is why we made a commitment to invest an additional £2m to improve the borough’s parks, libraries and leisure facilities.”
Display boards outlining the plans are on show at each of the centres until 6 February, with a series of consultations being held with local residents to ensure that the designs fully meet community requirements.
Tim Mills, Fusion’s director of business development, added: “We want to know what people think about the plans and ensure that there is plenty of opportunity for local residents to be involved in the process and feedback their thoughts before any final decisions are made.”
Plans for Feltham Airparcs include a new main entrance and reception area, library and crèche with possible outside space, as well as a large café/social area opening onto a newly landscaped courtyard. The refurbished gym will have two exercise studios, and the swimming pool will be equipped with a changing village to improve facilities for families and groups. The disused tennis courts will be reinstated with flood lighting and a new multisport surface is being considered.
To enhance Isleworth Recreation Centre, a new reception area housing a café/bar with an outside terrace area overlooking the park will be linked to a new crèche being built adjacent to the existing children’s library.
A changing village will be built at the centre’s swimming pool, which will have its original glazed facade reinstated to provide swimmers with views of Redlees Park. A larger gym with a new exercise studio is also proposed.
Redlees Park will be landscaped and the existing multi-use sports pitches may be resurfaced.
Plans for Brentford Fountain include a new entrance and reception area plus updated changing areas. The existing fitness suite will be remodelled to create a 100-workstation gym, while the café will be refreshed and a small café/juice bar will be added to the existing pool side terrace. The existing gym and studio at Chiswick Pool will be updated and relocated to the first floor to provide space for a new crèche and café on the ground floor. The reception and foyer will be enlarged and the pool’s changing rooms refurbished.
Work on site at all four centres will kick off this summer, with completion expected by Christmas.
