New leisure centre in Ellesmere Port given the go-ahead
The first images of a £15m leisure centre in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire have been revealed after plans were given the go ahead.
The project, which will be located at Ellesmere Port was given unanimous backing by members of the Cheshire West and Chester (CWaC) Council, along with a similar project, which is set to be built in Northwich.
The building is not without query however. Labour group leader at CWaC, Justin Madders, questioned whether the authority was getting value for money after reports that Crewe is getting a 50m pool and lifestyle centre for just £10m.
Construction is scheduled to start in autumn, assuming planning permission is granted in September.
Local swimming clubs and their supporters had called for a 50m pool at Ellesmere Port instead of the proposed 25m pool, but the council said that it would cost significantly more to build and run.
