New equipment for Barnet outdoor gym
Four new pieces of Wicksteed all-weather equipment have been installed as part of an free outdoor gym facility at Oak Hill Park in East Barnet, north London.
Barnet Council initially provided three stations - a surfer, a leg press and a space walker - at the £6,000 gym in February 2009, which is designed for use by people of all ages and abilities. However, the Friends of Oak Hill Park was successful in its bid for funding from the Milly Apthorp Trust to install a further three exercise stations, with the council financing the fourth.
Daniel Thomas, cabinet member for environment and transport at Barnet Council, said: "Since installing the outdoor gym just under a year ago, its use has exceeded all our expectations. "Not only has it proved extremely popular with residents all year round but it has also broken down age barriers as park users of all generations enjoy using the equipment together."
