New coastal path section opens in South Wales
A new 4.5-mile (7.2km) stretch of the Wales Coast Path has been unveiled in Carmarthenshire, South Wales, which provides a link between Pendine and the Pembrokeshire border.
The new section forms part of the Welsh Assembly Government's efforts to develop an 850-mile (1,368km) continuous route around the Welsh coast over the next two years. It is hoped that the new path, which links up with the Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion Coast Paths to provide an unbroken route between Pendine and Borth, will help boost access to coastal areas.
Welsh environment minister Jane Davidson said: "I am confident that the path will help to attract more visitors to this stunning coastline and in doing so will provide a real boost to the local economy. "However the Wales Coast Path is more than just a tourist attraction. I hope that local people will make the most of opportunities to enjoy the scenery while walking along the path and that it will encourage people to live more active and healthy lives."
