New 'alliance' for Hampshire and Solent museums
A new 'alliance' has been established by local authorities and museums along the south coast in a bid to improve services and secure government funding.
The Hampshire and Solent Museum Alliance will involve Hampshire County Council (HCC); Portsmouth City Council; Southampton City Council; and Winchester City Council. The Isle of Wight Council, the Mary Rose Trust and the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu will also comprise the alliance following changes to the Renaissance scheme.
HCC executive member for culture and recreation Margaret Snaith-Tempia said: "Hampshire and its people have a rich cultural and natural heritage which the County Council has a responsibility to preserve and share so that its history can be enjoyed by all. "This alliance could ensure that museums across the whole sub-region are in a better position to secure future funding."
