New Norfolk arts hub plans submitted
Plans for the transformation of a Grade I-listed chapel into a new multi-million pound arts venue for Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, have been submitted to the local authority.
London-based Hopkins Architects was appointed to draw up the proposals by Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC), which is set to boast indoor and outdoor performance spaces. The ground floor of the chapel building is set to offer a maximum seating capacity of 240 people, or a standing capacity of around 400 people. The gallery capacity is expected to be 60 people.
A box office, a café and toilets are also included in the proposals, which are also expected to help revitalise the town's King Street and St George's Plain areas. The plans will be part-funded using a £3m grant secured through the government's Sea Change programme, while GYBC, the East of England Development Agency and Norfolk County Council are also set to contribute.
