New BMX track proposed for Earley
Earley Town Council in Reading are preparing to submit a planning application for a new BMX facility to Wokingham Borough Council despite numerous objections from local residents.
The proposed 3,300sq m (35,520sq ft) facility will be built on the playing fields at Paddick Drive in Lower Earley and is designed by Neil Thomson Landscape Architects to feature a 300m track with three banked turns at least 2.5m high. Architect Neil Thomson said the track will be almost entirely hidden by 2,500sq m (26,909sq ft) of screen planting and woodland, so not to disrupt the landscape and views for residents.
The original plans for a 1.08-hectare (2.6-acre) BMX and skate facility proposed for Riverside Park in 2006 were scrapped due to resident opposition and the threat of flooding.
