National Trust launches bid to secure England's White Cliffs of Dover

The National Trust (NT) has announced the launch of its new £1.2m fundraising campaign in order to secure the long-term future of England's iconic White Cliffs of Dover.
It is one of the largest coastal-based appeals unveiled by the organisation and is designed to safeguard public access along a 1.35km (0.8-mile) stretch of the cliffs.
NT said the section will be maintained and operated for the benefit of the public and wildlife if the campaign is successful, and will complete a missing link in coastline under its care.
Fiona Reynolds, the trust's director general, said: "Immortalised in song and literature, the White Cliffs of Dover have become one the great symbols of our nation.
"If we don't raise the money then the future of the White Cliffs is uncertain and this stretch of coastline might one day be disrupted by inappropriate management or development."
