NWLDC unveils revamped leisure centre
North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) has officially unveiled a new-look leisure complex in Ibstock, following the completion of a £1.2m refurbishment.
Ibstock Leisure Complex has been closed since May 2009 in order for the work to be carried out, which has been part-funded by Sport England and has included a revamp of dry-side changing facilities. Spectator areas have been extended along the length of the venue's main pool and wet-side changing facilities have been moved to the shallow end, while the pool roof and side structures have been replaced.
The scheme has also included the conversion of former wet-side changing areas into a store and staff changing area, while the centre's reception has been relocated. NWLDC and Ibstock Community College jointly run the dual-use complex, which also boasts a four-court sports hall, a main school hall, an Evolution Fitness Suite equipped by technogym and grass pitches.
Trevor Pendleton, the council's leisure champion, said: "This will provide students and the public with a top-class facility which will help boost fitness and health throughout the district."
