North Somerset Council (NSC) has awarded the exclusive rights to develop the Tropicana site in Weston-super-Mare to the Nightingale Group.
The developer has secured exclusivity status for a six-month period, although the council's procurement process will continue in line with European Union regulations. Nightingale Group - working with FaulknerBrowns Architects, Serco and DTZ - proposes a new indoor adventure water park with children's play pool, leisure waters and rides.
An outdoor fun pool; a fitness pool, spa and health suite; adventure ice skating; a cinema; a children's play area; and holiday accommodation is also mooted. NSC said that it 'anticipates' a planning application for the scheme will be submitted in due course and it will continue to work with the developer on the scheme.
A rival plan for the Tropicana site - put forward by Havard Tisdale - was withdrawn last month.
