Boston Celtics to net new training complex
Boston Celtics – the most decorated National basketball Association (NBA) franchise of all time – has unveiled plans to construct a modern training facility.
Based in the city’s Boston Landing mixed-use development, which includes retail outlets and office space, the facility will become the new home of 17-time championship winners in spring 2018.
The centre will include: two parquet basketball courts; strength and conditioning, training and recovery facilities; locker rooms and a players’ lounge; physical therapy areas; sports science and nutrition facilities; expanded media room; hospitality area; and work space for office staff.
Elkus Manfredi Architects are the studio involved in the design of the complex. Construction is expected to start this autumn.
Rich Gotham, Boston Celtics president, said the facility would bring the team closer to its TD Garden arena and would provide “high impact brand visibility”.
He added that the development was going to be a “best-in-class athletic training and practice facility that will provide Celtics players, coaches and training staff with the resources, technology and programming to compete at the highest level in an increasingly competitive NBA landscape”.
When construction is complete, the franchise will move out of its current training facility, located in Waltham, which has been its home since 1999.
