Music attraction planned for The O2
A visitor attraction celebrating the history of British popular music is to be launched at The O2 in Greenwich, London, UK.
The site, to be called Popworld, will present the history of pop music by combining interactive exhibits with memorabilia from famous artists.
According to the Sunday Times, a US-style Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is also being planned as part of the attraction, with new artists being inducted each year.
The attraction is part of O2’s plans to establish the former Millennium Dome as the UK’s premier music venue.
The O2 opened in July 2007 and facilities at the mixed-use site include a 23,000-capacity main concert venue, an 11-screen multiplex cinema, an ice rink called the O2 Ice Pad, a 1,800-seat theatre and a 350-bedroom hotel with a spa and a gym.
The site’s 60,000sq ft (5,600sq m) bubble-shaped exhibition arena is currently hosting a Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition.
According to the Sunday Times, The 02 has become the highest-grossing music venue in the world, outperforming venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York, US.
