Museums Galleries Scotland members support governance changes

Museums Galleries Scotland's (MGS) transition to a National Development Body (NDB) has moved closer after constitutional and governance changes were backed by its members.
The majority (82 per cent) of the organisation's members voted in favour of the shake-up, which is a "key milestone" in the process to becoming the NDB for the Scottish sector.
Alterations to MGS's constitution and governance were required to meet recommendations outlined a 2010 report by the Museums Think Tank on the future of the industry.
MGS will continue in its role as an independent charitable trust backed by, but independent of, the Scottish Government, and will be responsible for delivering the National Strategy.
The next steps towards becoming a NDB include working with institutions to develop the delivery plan for the strategy through a series of roadshows taking place this summer.
MGS chair Fiona Ballantyne said: "Since MGS were invited to become the NDB and to develop the National Strategy, we have worked extremely hard within the given timeframe whilst continuing to deliver for the sector."
