Museum of Somerset contractor appointed
Birmingham-based attraction fit-out specialists, The Hub, has been chosen as main contractor for a £7m redevelopment of the Museum of Somerset at Taunton Castle.
Somerset County Council (SCC) selected the firm after receiving more than 30 expressions of interest to deliver the scheme, which has been supported by a £4.8m Heritage Lottery Fund grant. New galleries, displays and showcases are planned as part of the museum, which is located within the restored Taunton Castle and will offer more than 25 per cent additional gallery space when complete.
Developer Henry W Polland and Son; Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios; Event Communications; and engineers King Shaw Associates are among the other firms to have worked on the museum, which is due to open in spring 2011. SCC cabinet member for community Christine Lawrence said: "The Hub has considerable experience of museum exhibition fit-out work, and we are confident that the end result will be something which we can all be very proud of."
