Morecambe FC appoints stadium contractors
Morecambe Football Club (MFC) has appointed Globe Management Services to construct a new 6,800-capacity stadium at the Lancashire town's Westgate site, which will replace the club's existing Christie Park home.
Plans for the venue, which have been drawn up in partnership with planning consultants Maze Planning Solutions, architects The Harris Partnership and structural engineers R.G Perkins and Partners, also include a new multi-sports facility adjacent to the new stadium. The Warrington-based building contractor is expected to start work on 10 August to deliver the new stadium, which will feature a 2,000-seat main stand incorporating bars, a club shop, and conferencing facilities capable of accommodating 300 delegates.
Bar and catering facilities will be included in the three other terraced stands as part of the development, which was given the green light by Lancaster City Council in September last year and is to be funded through the sale of the Christie Park site to Sainsbury's. MFC chief executive, Rod Taylor, said: "The facilities we are building will be a tremendous asset to the town and a further significant step in the regeneration of Morecambe. We thank everyone for their support in getting to this stage and look forward to delivering to them the first class facilities we have promised."
The proposed multi-sports facilities, which will cater for football, hockey, netball and basketball, include an all-weather synthetic pitch, three football pitches and two all-weather tennis courts, as well as changing rooms.
