Mini squash is a hit in Stockton
Mini Squash and squash proved to be a hit with youngsters in Stockton over the summer period.
As part of the Sporting Start scheme funded by North Tees TPCT, free mini squash coaching sessions were run at Thornaby Pavilion and Stockton Sports Centre for children aged 5-11.
The game is played using specialised equipment, including larger balls which are designed to help children achieve maximum success.
Colin Wheatley, Durham and Cleveland's squash development coach said: "The sessions have been well attended and the number one aim of the session is to let the children enjoy the game of squash."
Allan McDermott, Tees Active Sports Academy Manager, added: "The mini squash and squash coaching sessions have been a great success and Tees Active are working with England Squash to develop regular coaching sessions at Billingham Forum and Thornaby Pavilion as the children who have attended the sessions want to develop their skills further.
"We are also planning to invite some local schools to attend sessions at Thornaby Pavilion and Billingham Forum in the next few months."
Tees Active is also planning to run more free squash and mini squash sessions during the next Sporting Start Programme which will run during the October half term.
