Mickey's PhilharMagic set for Tokyo Disneyland
Tokyo Disneyland owners Oriental Land have confirmed that Mickey's PhilharMagic will open at the site on 24 January 2011.
The new theatre-type attraction features Disney's 3-D technology, special effects, and a wide, concave screen designed to envelop the audience as it is immersed in the world of Disney films. Guests are invited into the 454-seat theatre for an orchestra concert conducted by Mickey Mouse. As Donald Duck prepares for the concert, he unwittingly ends up taking the audience through the world of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Peter Pan, and Aladdin.
During the Aladdin segment, guests will have the sensation of flying, thanks to a special effects breeze blowing through the theatre. Similar sensations will be experienced in each of the other scenes from the films. To be located in Fantasyland, the show - which cost around JPY6bn (£44.4m, €53.4m, US$65.8m) to create - will last about 11 minutes and be the 43rd attraction at Tokyo Disneyland.
