Meow Wolf to open immersive arts space and hotel in Phoenix
Immersive art collective Meow Wolf is creating a new exhibition space, music venue and hotel in Phoenix, Arizona, to open in 2024.
Working in collaboration with Phoenix-based urban development firm True North Studio, Meow Wolf will build the new centre to put on immersive art and music experiences, with the 40-bedroom hotel to be designed by artists.
The art space will feature a 75,000sq ft (6,968sq m) exhibition area, alongside a 10,000sq ft (929sq m) music and performance venue, with the three spaces sitting at close-by addresses on the same street – 811, 813, and 817 North Third Street – in the Arizona city.
Meow Wolf is an art collective known for their highly colourful, eye-catching immersive installations and the group now have several in the pipeline based in cities around the US, including Las Vegas, Washington DC and Denver.
The group said at a launch press conference that the hotel rooms will be a mix of faux-glamping sites, hostel-like spaces, "absurd" luxury suites, as well as some accommodations within the art itself in the main exhibition space.
"Guests are always asking about staying overnight inside our House of Eternal Return project in Santa Fe, so doing an intertwined exhibition and hotel just made sense to us," said Meow Wolf CEO and co-founder Vince Kadlubek.
"Our intention for this venture is to collaborate with the creative community in Greater Phoenix to produce an authentic, local statement of expression which will bring further excitement and creative energy to the Roosevelt Row Arts District."
