Men’s fitness chain heads south
The fast-growing franchise chain, Cuts Fitness for Men, has expanded beyond its US borders to open its first international facility, in Latin America.
The company recently celebrated the sale of its 100th franchise in the US and the new site in Guatemala is part of an ambitious rollout programme, which is intended to create 700 Cuts facilities by 2005.
Founded by John Gennaro in May 2003, the Cuts Fitness for Men concept targets men who do not exercise on a regular basis.
The sites offer a 30-minute circuit training and cardiovascular workout called The Body Cuts System. The system has been developed to comply with the recommendations of major health and fitness organisations including The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Centers for Disease Control and the Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health.
Gennaro said the concept is successful for many of the same reasons that have made the women-only facilities so popular.
“There was some initial skepticism in the industry regarding our business model focused on men, but we appreciate convenient and effective workouts in a positive and friendly environment regardless of gender.”
