Mayor's fund benefits city climbing venue
A new-look climbing and bouldering centre at Westway Sports Centre, White City, has been unveiled by Kate Hoey, the London mayor's commissioner for sport.
Westway Climbing Centre - the only combined climbing and bouldering venue in the UK - has benefited from £42,000 through the mayor's Playsport London Facilities Fund. The facility, which is located beneath the Westway flyover, is run by Westway Development Trust and is used as a training centre by elite British climbers.
A bouldering wall at Westway Climbing Centre has been replaced and made fully accessible with the help of the funding, which aims to ensure a lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympics. Hoey said: "The opening of this bouldering wall is just the latest example of us delivering on our commitment to a genuine grass-roots sporting legacy from London 2012."
