Mark Rockerfeller launches new wilderness retreat venture
Billionaire heir Mark Rockerfeller, the youngest son of entrepreneur and former US vice president Nelson Rockerfeller, has partnered with UK-based Natural Retreats with the view of launching a number of branded wilderness retreats across the US.
Together with Natural Retreats founder Matt Spence, Rockerfeller is looking to establish a portfolio of exclusive retreats located in the "great outdoors" - at national parks, wilderness beauty spots and locations offering fishing and hunting.
Rockerfeller said the aim is to establish Natural Retreats as a brand offering a consistent quality of service. Currently, a vast majority of accommodation within national parks in the US is offered by small, single-site independent companies or by state-owned organisations.
The first property to open under the venture is Snake River in Idaho, US. Formerly called South Fork Lodge, the site is owned by Rockerfeller.
The resort offers guests accommodation in four different classes - regular suites aimed at couples; luxury family suites; supervised camping pitches; and a VIP-style 'The Residence', which offers private lodging for up to six people.
In a statement on its website, a spokesperson for Natural Retreats said: "Natural Retreats is delighted to announce a new partnership with the Rockefeller family aimed at delivering a new and extraordinary vacation experience in the US.
"Natural Retreats Snake River in Idaho, formerly South Fork Lodge is the first location to be opened by the company in the US. It introduces a new and exciting concept to the US travel market, combining the skills and experience of Natural Retreats with the breathtaking location and superb accommodation and dining experience offered by this stunning development."
Natural Retreats currently operates six locations in the UK and another four in Ireland.
