Makeover for Hutchesons' Hall
Hutchesons' Hall in Glasgow, the National Trust for Scotland's (NTS) Merchant City landmark, is to get a makeover this summer.
Working with the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and with funding from Glasgow City Council's Better Glasgow Fund, The Merchant City Townscape Heritage Initiative and Glasgow City Heritage Trust, NTS has commenced a complete exterior refurbishment of the 19th century David Hamilton-designed building. Under the revamp, which is expected to cost more than £400,000, the building's roof will be replaced and the exterior repaired and repainted. The work is being undertaken by the Glasgow-based building contractor CBC, with a design team led by Pollock Hammond architects.
The refurbishment is part of a plan to find a long term use for the building and NTS group manager for buildings and gardens west, Robert Ferguson said: "The Merchant City area has undergone massive regeneration over the past few years and we want to ensure that Hutchesons' Hall remains an impressive landmark in this bustling area of the city."
