MP calls for Supporters Direct funding
Labour MP Ivan Lewis has urged the Premier League to reconsider its decision to withdraw its funding to Supporters Direct (SD), which is now facing financial issues.
According to the BBC, the £1.2m funding was pulled following the organisation's handling of a series of "abusive" messages posted on micro-blogging website Twitter by former SD chief executive Dave Boyle. Lewis - the shadow culture secretary - told the BBC: "Supporters Direct and the Fans' Fund are now in a constructive dialogue about putting their relationship back on track and reinstating funding.
"Under new leadership I am confident they can move forward and further develop their groundbreaking work in support of supporters' trusts and fans' involvement." SD was established in order to provide support and advice to football supporters looking to increase representation in the running of clubs, as well as the creation of fan trusts.
