MMU unveils new sports science centre
Former Manchester United and England footballer Sir Bobby Charlton has unveiled a new £10m sport science centre at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).
The new facility at MMU Cheshire completes the final phase of a £50m scheme to help turn Crewe into a 'major university town'. Sports and Exercise Science will now become the last department to relocate from Alsager, with the sport sience centre incorproating two four-court sports halls and a 50-station gym.
A 3G artificial pitch; a £1m altitude training chamber; genetics laboratories; and a sports injruy clinic complete the line-up of facilities. MMU Cheshire dean Dennis Dunn said: "It is important for the town that higher education is healthy and successful here and we hope people will get involved with us, whether through sports and arts or through learning."
