MGS announces latest funding awards
Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is to invest nearly £650,000 across 16 institutions in the latest round of funding for Recognised Collections of National Significance.
Perth and Kinross Council has secured the largest share of funding (£82,000) to help with the modernisation of Perth Museum and Art Gallery, including new display spaces. North Lanarkshire Council has secured nearly £81,000 in order to enhance the care of and public access to its Industrial History Collection.
The University of Edinburgh; the University of Aberdeen; Auchindrain Trust; and Almond Valley Heritage Trust have all received £40,000 grants. Other recipients of MGS funding include Aberdeenshire Council (£42,300) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (£36,970).
MGS chief executive officer Joanne Orr said: "For a small museum this represents a major cash injection, and helps put them on a firm footing for the future. "For a large museum it is a chance to do something they simply didn't have the resources to before."
