Lottery award semi-finalists announced
Ten community sports projects across the UK are in the running to receive a £2,000 cash prize after being named as semi-finalists in the National Lottery Awards 2010.
Members of the public are now being asked to help decide which three Lottery-funded schemes should go forward to a final public vote in July as part of the seventh annual awards. The sport category is one of seven that comprise the awards, with others including heritage, arts, the environment, education, health and voluntary.
Among the sports projects to make the semi-final stage are Attock Community Sports and Cricket Club, Birmingham; Children's Able and Disabled Sport, Cheshire; and Breaking the Barrier, Devon. Barry Beavers Disabled Swimming Club, South Wales; Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex, London; the Lincolnshire Disability Inclusion Project; and Ready, Steady, Run in Rugby are also in the running.
Dromore Education and Community Partnership, County Tyrone; the Sport Action Zone, London; and Sportworx, South Lanarkshire complete the semi-finalists in the sport category. Voting will end at midday on 18 June, with the three most popular going forward to July's public vote. The winning scheme for each category will be revealed as part of a BBC1 television programme later this year.
