National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and the Olympic Stadium in London are among this year's winners of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Awards.
This year's awards for architectural excellence were presented to 50 buildings across the UK, as well as nine buildings elsewhere in the European Union.
Winners have ranged from a house built in the shape of a sand dune in Suffolk to the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, and from a demountable opera pavilion in High Wycombe to the radical transformation of a Spanish bull-fighting arena in Barcelona.
A dominant theme among this year's winners was the inclusion of a number of major public arts buildings - ten of which have made the grade.
Many are the result of pre-recession arts lottery funding and include Bath's Holburne Museum (Eric Parry Architects); the Hepworth Wakefield (David Chipperfield Architects); and the Turner Contemporary at Margate (David Chipperfield Architects).
Other leisure projects include Brockholes Visitor Centre in Lancashire (Adam Khan Architects); the Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre in Lincolnshire (Jonathan Hendry Architects); and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh (Page/Park Architects).
• A further 75 UK-based projects were announced as RIBA regional award winners, with a number of leisure schemes featuring among the recipients.
In the East region, Hertfordshire's Lee Valley White Water Centre received an award and was designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects, with S&P acting as delivery architects.
Elsewhere across the UK, there were regional awards for Canterbury's Marlowe Theatre (South East, Keith Williams Architects) and Nottingham's Victoria Leisure Centre (East Midlands, Levitate).
In the West Midlands, the Make-designed Cube development was also a regional winner. The £13m complex opened in December and includes The Club and Spa health resort.
