Link4Life Youth Sports Volunteer co-ordinator heads to Uganda
An employee of Link4Life, the Rochdale Boroughwide Cultural Trust, has taken time out to travel to Uganda to teach local workers and volunteers sports and games that they can pass on to local children.
Farah Rehman, a Youth Sports Volunteer co-ordinator, left at the beginning of April with the charity Agapao International to stay in an orphanage in a town called Jinja.
As well as teaching sports, the group will also be going to a local school to spend time cleaning and painting and buying books and school equipment.
Link4Life has a long-standing relationship with Agapao and has donated sports equipment including basketballs, hurdles, batons, footballs, tennis racquets, skipping ropes and bibs to take out to the children.
Before she went, Rehman said: "I'm really looking forward to meeting the children and getting involved with them. Uganda was featured during Comic Relief this year and I hope to be able to pass on some simple skills to local volunteers that will help provide ongoing benefit to the community."
Link4Life's head of Neighbourhood and Communities team, Peter Jackson, said: "Link4Life was delighted to be able to support Farah's visit to Uganda. It's an opportunity that I'm sure will benefit her and add even more to the skills and experience she can bring to her job when she returns."
