Lido swimmers are England's top fundraisers
A swimming pool managed by charitable social enterprise GLL has raised more funds than any other pool in England during this year's Swimathon fundraising campaign.
Swimmers at London Fields Lido have raised over £26,000, more money than any swimming pool in the country through the Swimathon scheme.
The initiative invites swimmers to choose a swimming challenge and then to generate sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues.
In total, GLL-managed pools across London and the South East raised a massive £146,000.
In addition to London Fields Lido, notable fundraising achievements included Crystal Palace National Sports Centre and Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre - both of which raised over £10,000 each for the charity. Acton Swimming Baths had the highest individual average fundraising of £231.79 per person.
Sports celebrity swimmer Duncan Goodhew, who launched Swimathon 2010 said: "Swimathon is incredibly exciting. It enables normal people to do extraordinary things. Everyone's challenge is very much their own - but not only do their efforts benefit themselves, they benefit their country and the charities."
