Liberty revamp plans revealed
Plans for the redevelopment of the Liberty Science Center (LSC) in New Jersey, US have been revealed.
Scheduled to open in 2007, the centre’s new extension will add nearly 100,000sq ft (9,300sq m) to the LSC’s existing 196,000sq ft (18,200sq m) footprint.
More than half of the new space – 59,820sq ft (5,500sq m) – has been dedicated to house new exhibitions.
The largest new exhibition will be Skyscraper! Achievement and Impact. The 11,000sq ft (1,020sq m) space will explore cityscapes and offer guests the opportunity to learn about the design, planning, operation and impact of modern skyscrapers.
Other new facilities at LSC will include a center for science and learning, a new two-storey lobby, 24,200sq ft (2,250sq m) of theatre space, a box office and retail area.
Construction of the extension began in 2005 and will take 22 months to complete. Details: www.lsc.org
