Legoland Florida announces Lego Movie expansion plans
Merlin has announced the largest expansion for Legoland Florida since it opened in 2011.
Coming in Q2 2019, the new world, based on The Lego Movie, is the theme park and resort's biggest investment in its history, placing visitors in the city of Bricksburg, the home of the movie's main character, Emmet.
Three new rides will feature in the new world, with character meet and greets and a giant playscape also included. Additionally, the expansion will see the park's existing Quest for Chi interactive boat ride rethemed to become part of Lego Movie World. The addition, says Merlin, represents Legoland's continuing commitment to providing state-of-the-art experiences for kids ages 2-12.
“The sights and sounds will be fully immersive, bringing The Lego Movie franchise to life in a way that only a Legoland Park could,” said Rex Jackson, general manager of Legoland Florida Resort.
"We know kids come from all over the world to meet the stars of the movie and we can’t wait to see their faces light up as they interact within the imaginative world of Bricksburg."
The 2014 film was a critical and commercial success, grossing US$469m (€392.2m, £345.3m) worldwide against a US$60m (€50.2m, £44.2m) budget. A sequel to the film – The Lego Movie Sequel – will open on 8 February 2019, just prior to the new land's launch. The park's most recent addition is its virtual reality rollercoaster, which debuted in March. It also opened its new Ninjago World in January last year.
