LTA expected to appoint Annacone

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is set to raid the coffers from Wimbledon's £25m annual surplus again with the news expected that Tim Henman's coach, American Paul Annacone, is to become head of men's tennis.

Annacone, one of the world's top coaches, will not come cheap and his appointment is a further sign of the substantial changes which are afoot at the LTA.

Roger Draper, who took over as chief executive of the LTA earlier this year, has put assembling a team of the best international coaches at the top of his priorities.

Annacone would join Peter Lundgren, John Lloyd and Brad Gilbert, who were recently recruited as Britain's Davis Cup coach, Davis Cup captain and Andy Murray's coach respectively.

With the LTA working on other coaches – particularly to focus on work with British women who are struggling to perform at the highest levels – there could be more high profile, and high cost, appointments on the horizon.
