LA Fitness recruits celebrity dancer
Health club operator LA Fitness has teamed up with Alesha Dixon, a former winner and one of the judges of the BBC's popular Strictly Come Dancing show.
Dixon has been brought in to devise new dance and exercise courses for the chain.
The four-year deal will see Dixon hold a strategic role in which she will receive a share of the revenues generated through the new classes she will consult on.
The appointment comes as part of LA fitness' repositioning plan in the UK, which includes the refurbishment of all of its 83 clubs and the launch of the new LA fitness experience.
LA Fitness is the latest operator hoping to cash in on the increasing popularity of dancing and the government's Dance4Life campaign.
Earlier this month, Fitness First announced that it had struck a deal with BBC Worldwide, the UK broadcaster's commercial division, to offer new exercise classes based on the Strictly Come Dancing show.
Martin Long. LA Fitness’ chief executive, said: "Alesha will bring a fresh, contemporary eye to the entire LA fitness business.
"This is a unique relationship in that the vast majority of her renumeration will be performance related, and a direct result of revenue growth. As such we look forward to working with her to develop new classes and products that our current members will enjoy, and that capture the imagination of potential members."
