Krispy Kreme to open in London
The American doughnut chain, Krispy Kreme (KK) has announced the opening of its first European outlet in Harrods department store, London.
The store will be opening in October and will be followed by brand extension plans in UK and Ireland that will take place over the next five years and involve 25 new stores.
The first UK site will be accessible through the Harrods food hall – but have its own designated street entrance – and will begin selling its 16 varieties of doughnuts at 7am every day. The site will also sell Krispy Kreme’s signature coffee.
Krispy Kreme opened its first store in 1937 in North Carolina. It now has over 300 stores in 41 states in the US, plus Canada and Australia. An estimated 2.7bn KK doughnuts are produced each year.
Chairman of Krispy Kreme, Scott Livengood, said: "This is a landmark event in Krispy Kreme’s history, marking our second store outside of North America and our first in Europe. Harrods is an icon in the retail industry and we are extremely proud of this partnership. We look forward to a long and successful relationship as we continue to greet new customers in this part of the world." Details: www.krispykreme.com
