Krampus coming to Universal for Halloween Horror Nights
Universal Orlando is putting a Santa-related spin on its Halloween Horror Nights this year, adding a little bit of festive fear with the addition of Krampus to its seasonal offering.
Based on the Legendary Pictures adaptation of the character from European folklore, the Krampus horror maze will have guests navigate the Engel family home. Once inside they will encounter “the evil ancient spirit of Krampus – the dark shadow of Saint Nicholas – his band of Dark Elves and the sinister Gingerbread Men”.
Krampus will be one of nine new horror houses for the 26th iteration of Universal’s phenomenally-popular Halloween Horror Nights. Other houses based on The Walking Dead, The Exorcist, Halloween II and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have already been announced, as has Chance – the right-hand woman of Halloween Horror Nights’ signature character Jack the Clown, who will take over as the star of this year’s event.
Halloween Horror Nights will run from September 16 to October 31. Universal’s parent company Comcast has previously attributed the annual event as one of the prime reasons why the theme parks division for Universal has enjoyed increased sales in a traditionally quiet final quarter of the year. Universal is the leader in Halloween horror attractions, drawing more than 600,000 visitors annually, while Knott’s Berry Farm is one of the originators of the idea, starting its Halloween festivities in 1973.
