K2 Crawley hosts corporate Crawlathon
On 1 December 2009, K2 Crawley opened its doors to 160 corporate professionals from the area to participate in the third annual Crawlathon to raise money for local charities.
The Crawlathon is a mini triathlon competed by teams of 10 people, who had to, between them, complete a 1.9km swim, a 21.09km run on the outdoor track and a 45km cycle on fixed bikes in the gym in two relays.
The event raised in excess of £15,000 which will be distributed to Olive Tree Cancer Support, Crawley and East Grinstead Parkinson's Disease Society, Outreach 3 Way and the Crawley Open House.
Dave Downey, community sports development officer at K2 Crawley, said: "We're really pleased to open our doors to the corporate professionals for the Crawlathon. Not only do they get to keep fit and network but local charities benefit from their hard work."
Sarah Beauvallet, relationship director for Santander, said: "The idea of the event started two years ago when it struck me that local corporate professionals would welcome the opportunity to raise money for local charities, keep fit in the lead up to Christmas and have a pre-Christmas opportunity to network. I was lucky enough to meet the Sussex Community Foundation who has helped identify local, grassroots charities in the local area and overseeing the allocation of funds to these very good causes. We'd also like to say thank you to Freedom Leisure for allowing us to use the great facilities at K2 Crawley."
