June opening for Madeira’s largest spa
The Quinta Splendida Hotel in Madeira is due to open its wellness spa in June 2006.
Owner Intermendes Lda has invested 6m euro (£4.1m, US$7.1m) in the spa, which is targeted at a 30+ year-old, mixed-sex, international clientele.
The 1,400sq m five-star hotel spa resort - will be located in a 30,000sq m (323,000sq ft) botanical garden, featuring 1,000 species of tropical flowers and plants.
The spa facility will comprise a vitality pool, a 12x7m indoor pool with an orchid surrounded waterfall feature, a heated outdoor pool, 10 treatment rooms, an ice fountain with separate cold water and footbath combo, a fitness room, Turkish steam bath and mud bath.
Sauna facilities and spa equipment have been installed by Klafs. The treatment product range is yet to be released but will feature a holistic range new to Madeira.
The spa will offer 25 large modern suites equipped with private terraces and panoramic views of the Atlantic. The complex has been designed according to understated Asian themes and will feature two restaurants and two bars serving organic Asian fusion cuisine. Conference facilities will accommodate between 30 and 200 people.
Complimentary facilities include an art gallery, a library, Portuguese lessons, snooker/table tennis, garden tours and Madeira wine tasting.
The Quinta Splendida Hotel is part of the Quintas da Madeira hotel collection. No further spas are currently planned for any of the collection’s other properties. Details: www.quintasplendida.com
